ATIVIDADES

1ª ATIVIDADE:

- Inicie a aula com o seguinte questionamento: O que vocês sabem sobre Literatura Inglesa? (Ouça as respostas);

- Vocês já ouviram falar em Jane Austen? O que vocês sabem sobre ela? (Ouça as respostas, faça um breve cometário sobre ela e, em seguida, apresente um texto seguido de atividade escrita em inglês que aborde a vida da escritora).

- Sugira a leitura do texto, observando palavras cognatas e inferências, e logo depois pergunte: Qual é o assunto do texto?

- Faça a leitura do texto com os alunos reforçando as palavras cognatas e peça que eles respondam às perguntas observando o vocabulário. (Na resolução dos exercícios dê a opção do uso do dicionário).

Why Jane Austen is great?

Jane Austen (16 December 1775 – 18 July 1775) was born in Hampshire, England. She was an English novelist that began her literary career at the age of 15 and her realism, biting irony and profundity social commentary have gained her historical importance among scholars and critics. She is recognized as one of the greatest novelist in the English language because of the romance genre of her books, astute stories and clever commentaries on the social and financial structures and strictures of her day.

Austen was educated by her father and older brothers as well as through her own reading. Her work brought her little personal fame and only a few positive reviews during her lifetime, but the publication in 1869 of her nephew’s A memoir of Jane Austen introduced her to a wider public, and by the 1940s she had become widely accepted in academia as a great English writer.

2ª ATIVIDADE:

- Depois de conhecer um pouco sobre a vida da autora, apresente o trabalho literário dela. (Utilizando um projetor, mostre os livros e filmes basados na obra da escritora).

- Em seguida, mostre o museu que retrata a vida de Austen, também utilizando o projetor. (Indique sites nos quais os alunos podem ver fotos do museu e navegar através de imagens 3D).

- Entregue aos alunos um texto em inglês que cita alguns dos trabalhos de Jane Austen e sugira a resolução dos exercícios. (Nesta etapa comente o texto apenas ao corrigir a atividade, já que as obras já foram apresentadas a eles. Deixe que eles tentem interpretar o texto e interfira apenas se perceber que eles necessitam de ajuda).

Jane Austen’s work

Jane Austen creates as profound an understanding and precise a vision of the potentialities of the human spirit as the art of fiction has ever achieved. She wrotes six famous novels: Sense and Sensibility (1811), her first major novel; Pride and Prejudice (1813), the most popular work; Mansfield Park (1814), her most severe exercise in moral analysis; Emma (1816), it doesn’t engage the reader’s sympathy and understanding; and Northanger Abbey (1817), a gothic novel was published together with Persuasion (1818), this one perhaps express her feelings about her own life.

She also published about thirteen poems: Happy the Lab’rer; I’ve a pain in my head; Miss Lloyd has now went to Miss Green; Mock Panegyric on a young friend; My dearest Frank, I wish you joy; Ode to Pity; Of a Ministry pitiful, angry, mean; Oh! Mr Best you’re very bad; See they come, post haste from Thanet; This little bag; To the memory of Mrs Lefroy who died Dec, 16 – my birthday; When stretch’d on one’s bed; and When Winchester races. Austen’s work are so enduring because they represent love stories but at the same time, offers lessons on life and social mores.

3ª ATIVIDADE:

- Mostre um vídeo sobre o poema This little bag (faça perguntas sobre o vídeo: vocês sabem qual é o título do poema? Qual é o tema do poema? O que vocês entenderam sobre ele?).

- Repita a apresentação do vídeo duas ou três vezes, em seguida peça que os alunos formem duplas e, em seguida, entregue o poema escrito para eles.

- Trabalhe o texto escrito: inferências, tradução, interpretação e tempo verbal.

- Explique o motivo pelo qual o texto foi escrito e pergunte se os alunos têm o mesmo hábito descrito no texto (De confeccionar objetos e presentear os amigos como lembrança da amizade).

- Pratique a habilidade reading/ listening/reading.

4ª ATIVIDADE:

- Assista ao filme Pride and Prejudice com os alunos (Prefira por o áudio em inglês e a legenda em português).

- Peça aos alunos que formem grupos de até quatro pessoas e sugira aos alunos a leitura da obra em inglês, em português e a realização de pesquisas na internet.

- Entregue uma ficha de exercícios para que os alunos completem em inglês o que lhes é solicitado.

5ª ATIVIDADE:

- Peça aos alunos mantenham os mesmos grupos e que cada grupo confeccione um pôster com o(a) personagem que consideram mais interessante do romance. No pôster, os alunos devem escrever em inglês os adjetivos que melhor descrevem o personagem. Sugiram que sejam criativos e originais.
